What You’ll Find in Every Examination Room

Every examination room is equipped with advanced dental equipment, such as:

• Digital X-Rays: Digital X-rays allow our Michigan dentist to spot early signs of decay and other issues that aren’t visible to the naked eye. Though this may seem like a small part of your dental visit, it helps us provide proactive care, treating problems as quickly and effectively as possible.
• LCD Monitors: You can kick back and relax during your visit because we have TV screens on our ceilings that hook up to the microscopes so that you can watch the treatment if you wish.
• Surgical Microscopes: Our office was the first in Western Michigan to feature surgical microscopes. Dr. Leitner uses our microscopes to view images that are magnified 20 times, so he can see areas of decay, fissures, and damaged teeth much more clearly. This is invaluable for efficient treatment planning.

Intraoral Scanners and Cone Beam CT Scans

During each visit, your hygienist and dentist will visually examine your mouth. But sometimes, there are places that are difficult to see. An intraoral digital scanner is a small, pen-shaped device with a camera on the end. This device can show us high-quality images and videos of areas in your mouth that we can’t normally see, helping with diagnosis and treatment planning.

Cone Beam Computed Technology (CBCT) is an advanced piece of technology that has improved our diagnostic process, showing a complete 3D overview of your jaw and head. This allows Dr. Leitner and our dental team to provide a more accurate treatment plan to our patients. CBCT scans take under one minute to complete and cause minimal discomfort, as they’re non-invasive.

Joint Vibration Analysis (JVA™)

Issues with your temporomandibular joint, or TMJ, can be diagnosed more easily using joint vibration analysis (JVA™). This system identifies signs of a TMJ Disorder (TMD) and indicates the severity of the situation.

Your TMJ or is the skeletal foundation of your mouth. All dentists are required to assess the health and function of your TMJ’s. Our office uses Joint Vibration Analysis (JVA™) which records the vibrations created by joint fluid, cartilage, and bone as you open and close your mouth. 

This test allows us to objectively measure and document the health of your Jaw Joint in just 10 seconds of opening and closing. It can be used to help diagnose problems with the joint that can be the cause of breakdown or pain, and can help us make sure we are aware of any underlying issues before performing treatment that could damage or strain your jaw joints.

T-Scan Occlusal Analysis

Many dental procedures can change the way you bite. Fillings, crowns, bridges, extractions, and orthodontics as well as many more. For over 100 years, dentists have relied on paper covered in ink to see where the upper and lower teeth contact. But this old technique gives no information on the force, timing, and balance of your bite, which is what makes you feel your bite is “off”. 

We use the T-Scan NOVUS system that displays all this information on a computer so that your dentist can use it to get your bite right, with minimal tooth loss from guessing so that you aren’t subjected to the time and expense of unnecessary office visits.
